Wasting Water

Melbourne like most of Australia is on water alert as there is not much of it and it doesn't come around very often. People have buckets in their showers and then use the collected water to wash their dishes, polish their monitors, etc because we all have to pull together you know.

The other night on the street behind us a water pipe burst at 2:30 am, no doubt due to road maintenance that had been performed down that street in the day. A huge geyster spurted forth from under a parked car, spraying life juice everywhere. I watched for 5 minutes as the street started to submerge and a police officer tried to keep folk from driving through the spray. One car drove straight at the cop and he thumped their bonnet as they got past him and away to safety. Then the cop went back to his car to have a cry.

The water was still pumping strong as the juice dripped from the cops chin 20 minutes later so I took a few pics and went home. In the time I was there I'm sure 1000's of litres of water were wasted and there was no sign of it stopping.

By morning all the evidence was gone.
